Getting the inside “WWOOP” with Chef David Rose

Special Edition | Atlanta, GA

You’re gonna want to sit down for this one. We’re getting you the inside scoop on all things David Rose.

Chef David Rose is well-known for his cooking segments on daytime TV, competing in Food Network Star, and participating in national food and wine events. He is a Chef, TV Personality, Omaha Steaks Spokesperson, Big Green Egg Ambassador and author of the cookbook: “EGGin’: David Rose Cooks on the Big Green Egg.” Growing up in New Jersey with two chef parents, David has always had a diverse and adventurous palate, willing to try anything that smelled and looked good.

His accolades are nothing short of impressive; He regularly appears on Food Network, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Home & Family, Steve Harvey Show, EXTRA TV, Tamron Hall, Dr. Oz, and various national morning shows. As well as being featured in Rachael Ray, Forbes, and Essence magazines. Rose also appeared as a finalist on Food Network Star (Season 13), cooking head-to-head with Bobby Flay and fielding praise from Giada de Laurentiis.

We sat down with Rose to find out what he loves so much about cooking, life, and most importantly - his WWOO kitchen.

When it comes to his favorite WWOO kitchen accessory, Rose says,

“That’s an easy one, the braai oven... it can be used as a fireplace and also for cooking, so it’s an easy answer.”

You probably noticed Rose’s many Big Green Eggs, which might have you wondering “does he have a favorite?”

“I've got to say that XL over here. That is the big boy right there. You can do a bunch of different pork butts on there... ribs. It's just more real estate and whenever you're grillin’, whenever you're barbecuing, whenever you're entertaining, more is more.”

As for the flat screen TV mounted on the far right, Rose says

“I'm an old school HBO kind of guy. So Sopranos, Entourage, Boardwalk Empire, something old school, something that brings back great memories to make the food taste better. Because when you're entertained, the food's going to taste better.”

We asked “If you could have a cook off with any fictional character, who would it be and what would you cook?” His answer? A rat!

“I'm gonna go ahead and say Ratatouille. That rat’s got skills and I think my Ratatouille would whoop his butt any day. Ratatouille, let’s go!”

If your WWOO kitchen had a theme song what would it be?

“Easy. Bad to the Bone. Ba ba ba ba ba bad. Have you seen it? Bad to the bone.”

Who's the best chef in the family?

Mom, of course. Mom had no misses... Her food is what really fed my appetite, so to speak, for food and everything culinary in general, growing up. So, Mom, number one - me, number two. Duh!

If you haven’t heard, David Rose has quite an adventurous palette, and we wanted to know, what’s the most exotic food he’s tried.

“Okay, I will try anything. I’ve had gator, rattlesnake, shark, frog legs. Recently I was in Mexico and I had escamoles, that is actually egg larvae. Pretty crazy stuff, but I tried it, I'll try anything once. I've never met a food that has scared me.”

Last, we asked Rose if he has a favorite food from childhood

Definitely. Mom's Oxtails. I comes from a huge Jamaican family, and mom set the bar when it came to food, so Mom's oxtails number one. Still to this day, Finger. Lickin. Good. So good.
